Rolling in for Sheridan College’s “Frost Week” and first big show of the new year was Hunter Siegel & the world renowned three piece Keys N’ Krates. Both Hunter Siegel and Keys N’ Krates hail from Toronto, just a stones throw from our Sheridan campus.
Now most probably haven’t experienced a show at the Sheridan campus pub, The Marquee embodies the college experience. From the oversized Jägermeister stag head flags that cover the walls, to the smell of students drinking to forget their debt - it’s everything you’d hope to find.
Starting off the night was Hunter Siegel, feeding the crowd retro and future house hits. The crowd was understandably sluggish at first, undoubtably still labouring from all the weight packed on from the holiday break. After everyone starting buzzing from the atmosphere, the booze, or some kind illicit substance the dance floor started filling up just in time for KnK.
Keys N’ Krates promptly started off with true-to-form bass heavy remixes. From samples of Wakka Flakka to a trap remix of The Verve’s “Bitter Sweet Symphony”, the set had it all. Keeping the energy high through the body shaking trap-style, KnK ruthlessly drop some very memorable hardstyle - waking everyone up from their bass induced hypnosis. Closing off the set with their crowd pleasing original: “Dum Dee Dum”. With The home grown crowd demanding more, The Toronto Trio continued another for four encores to eventually end with their remix of Tove Lo’s “Habits”.
Keys N’ Krates are going to be some local Canadian talent to watch for this year, bringing a unique approach to norm of live shows.
